The character of Forrester in the movie movie 'Finding Forrester' is based loosely on the famous American author J.D Salinger. Although Salinger wrote quite a few books, like Forrester he is popular for and widely know for his first novel "Catcher in the Rye' published in 1951. Like the lead in the movie Salinger too was known for his reclusiveness. Success of Catcher in the Rye led to public attention and scrutiny which caused Salinger to become reclusive and publish new works less frequently.Attention was greatly disliked by him and this this is what led to the legal battle in 1980 between him and biographer Ian Hamilton
Although raised in Manhattan, New york ( where Forrester resides) he shifted to Cornish, New hampshire in 1953. Early in his time at Cornish he was relatively sociable, particularly with students from Windsor High School. Like Forrester and his friendly relationship with Jamal Wallace, Salinger too would invite students to his house to lay records and talk about problems at school. One of these students persuaded Salinger to be interviewed for the high school section of the city paper. the interview was pupblished in the editorial. after this incident salinger cut off contact with high school students all together.

Shooting an Elephant

To the Burmese Orwell was an enemy. To them he represented an opposing military force (the British) ; he was an 'armed adversary'. he was also a 'foe' ; a personal enemy because of all that he represented. He was a white man and hence stood for everything that was against them.
Similarly, to the writer, the Burmese could also be seen as enemies as they were a 'group of hostile people'. each of them waiting for his downfall.

Naturally true

We were finally going to go rafting. Atlast! The weather was near perfection and it was heavenly to feel the sun shining on my face, especially after five months of winter and the intense cold that accompanied it. Sitting in the car, I pulled the window down to let the air from outside swoosh in and play havoc with my hair. I took a deep breath. everything seemed to be getting better already. Maybe it was psychological, but my worries seemed so far and out of reach the further away we got from the city.
Mom and dad had been up for the family holiday from day one, but Bella and Edward (my sister and brother) had always found some reason or the other to oppose the idea. Bella hated nature, period. ( 'All those insects, eew!') Edward, on the other hand, just couldn't get enough of his 'social appointments'. I've always been the 'tree hugger' in our family. Nothing makes me happier than being out of the city and interacting with nature - we all need to go back to our origins from time to time.

Sehri without a soul

I am so sleepy, but that doesn't matter because I have to-under all circumstances-drag myself to make this sehri, because this along with all the other boring tasks of this house is my responsibility! Right, so four omelettes, I have exactly ten minutes to complete these. Ive not even had my coffee yet, and I can't function without it, however if I take five minutes out for myself I'll be running late and everyone would be complaining any second now. What about my needs? I want sehri before evryone else for once in my life. I hate this sexist world!

About me

My name is Zoyaa Mahmood and I am twenty years old. Yes that's a big number, and makes me feel incredibly old. Older still, because I'm the eldest child in my family (I have two younger brothers) which basically means I have to behave in a "responsible" manner. Something which often becomes difficult for me because I'm spontaneous by nature and act on whims mostly. "Just go with the flow" could possibly be one of my mottos in life.
